A PTFE rod (also called PTFE round bar or PTFE rod stock) is a solid cylindrical product made from virgin or mechanical grade polytetrafluoroethylene. It has the lowest coefficient of friction of any solid material, equal static and dynamic friction coefficients, and no slip-stick behaviour — making it the standard material for machined seals, valve seats, bearing pads, bushings, insulators and laboratory fixtures.

Virgin grade PTFE rod is made from 100% pure PTFE resin — no additives. It offers maximum chemical resistance and dielectric strength and is FDA-approved for food and pharmaceutical contact. Mechanical grade is compression-moulded from recycled PTFE, offering similar chemical resistance but slightly lower density and mechanical properties. Ground rod has been centreless-ground to a precision diameter and roundness tolerance (typically ±0.05 mm), producing a smooth finish and consistent cross-section. Choose ground rod when the finished part demands exact diameter, roundness, or a smooth surface for sealing or bearing contact.
Yes. Both virgin and mechanical grade PTFE rod are available on coil or reel for automated feed systems, or as straight lengths of 1000 / 2000 / 3000 mm. Custom lengths cut to your specification are also available.
