ePTFE joint sealant tape (also called ePTFE joint sealant or self-adhesive PTFE tape) is a soft, highly compressible sealing cord made from 100% virgin PTFE with a self-adhesive backing strip. It is used to seal flanges that are difficult to gasket with a conventional cut sheet — large, complex, irregular, pitted or damaged faces — and where the joint is opened frequently. The tape is simply pressed onto the flange, overlapping at the ends, and the joint is bolted up.

Where tape replaces cut gaskets with faster, cleaner sealing
Choose tape when the flange is large, irregular or has a complex shape where cutting a gasket is impractical; when the joint is opened frequently and gasket inventory cost matters; or when the flange surface is pitted or damaged and a cut gasket would leak. See ePTFE Gasket for standard-cut option.
As a rule: small flanges (DN15-DN50) use 3-5 mm; medium flanges (DN50-DN200) use 5-10 mm; large flanges (DN200 and up) use 10-20 mm; heavy-duty or rough surfaces use 20-30 mm. Please send us your flange size for a specific recommendation.
Standard practice is 25-50 mm overlap at the start point. For larger flanges or high-pressure service, use 50 mm or more. Slightly compress the overlap by hand so it seats flush with the rest of the tape.
No. PTFE is chemically inert — the tape does not hydrolyse, harden, crack or age like rubber compounds. It separates cleanly from the flange after use and does not leave a residue, making maintenance and cleaning fast.

The tape is simply pressed onto the flange, overlapping at the ends, and the joint is bolted up. It resists nearly all chemicals from pH 0 to 14, works from −268 °C to +260 °C and up to 100 bar, does not hydrolyse or harden, and separates cleanly from the flange after use.
